英文书面比较句的写法（六）

GRE ISSUE作文题库里还有这样一个句子：

“In most societies, competition generally has more of a negative than a positive effect.”

这个句子是怎么构成的呢？

Competition has a negative effect.
Competition has a positive effect.
>>> Competition has more a negative effect than competition has a positive effect.
>>> Competition has more_of_a negative effect thancompetition hasa positive effect.

现在，还有两个“effect”是重复的，于是，这句话最终可以有两个版本：

• Competition has more of a negative effect than a positive one. （代词替换）
• Competition has more of a negative than a positive effect. （第一个“effect”省略掉）

这两个版本都是正确的，通常推荐使用第二个版本——因为它更简洁。
