李老师您好，我昨天开始看您推荐的THOMAS SOWELL的BASIC ECONOMICS A citizen’s guide to the economy。
刚看了几页，就体会到了您这句话：“托马斯•索威尔的思想太过深邃而又缜密，落实成文字清楚却又凝练，常常游走于语言能够表达之极限边缘”的含义。有些句子我要反复看好几遍，把句子成分分析清楚之后才能明白。不知道是不是我的阅读水平还不过关？
书中有两个地方我经过反复阅读还是没有明白，也上google搜索了，但是没有找到答案。
第一个：“After getting in over their heads in credit card spending years ago, their finances are now in order. ‘But if we make a wrong move,’ Geraldine Frazier said, ‘the pressure we had from the bills will come back, and that is painful.’”
这句中的”After getting in over their heads in credit card spending years ago”，我理解的是“在偿还了一年以前从信用卡里所划的钱以后”，不知道对不对。第二个 In order to get rid of the unsold cars, they（automobile manufacturers） must cut the prices to whatever level is necessary to get them off the dealers’ lots, even if that means taking a loss.
这句中的”get them off the dealers’ lots”。我用thefreedictionary.com上给出的get off的意思全部带进去解释了一遍，还是不能理解。希望您解答，谢谢！

放在Thomas Sowell的句子里，应该是第二个释义：More than one can handle, too much.而get in是什么意思你查得到吧？
你的理解前半句正好反了。意译应该是这样：在不停地透支信用卡之后（在“过分地”“卷入”信用卡花费之后），他们终于财务状况良好了（比如说，他们欠别人很多钱，用信用卡不停地还账，最后尽管透支了很多，但总算不欠别人钱了——只欠银行的）。
第二个句子，你其实应该查查这个单词“lot”，在当前句子里应该是名词词性。如果你找不到，那么请看这里：韦氏词典的1lot(noun)之释义中的4.a条目。

应该是你不知道怎样确定搜索关键字，才导致找不到的。比如，你可以搜索“快速建立表单”，第一个结果就是：
