先看一道Argument题目：
The following appeared as part of an annual report sent to stockholders by Olympic Foods, a processor of frozen foods:
“Over time, the costs of processing go down because as organizations learn how to do things better, they become more efficient. In color film processing, for example, the cost of a 3-by-5-inch print fell from 50 cents for five-day service in 1970 to 20 cents for one-day service in 1984. The same principle applies to the processing of food. And since Olympic Foods will soon celebrate its 25th birthday, we can expect that our long experience will enable us to minimize costs and thus maximize profits.”
Discuss how well reasoned you find this argument. In your discussion be sure to analyze the line of reasoning and the use of evidence in the argument. For example, you may need to consider what questionable assumptions underlie the thinking and what alternative explanations or counterexamples might weaken the conclusion. You can also discuss what sort of evidence would strengthen or refute the argument, what changes in the argument would make it more logically sound, and what, if anything, would help you better evaluate its conclusion.

分析的第一步，是问两个特简单的问题：
- 结论是什么？
- 根据是什么？
在这道题目中，这两个问题的答案是：
结论是：成本会下降，利润会提升。
根据是：1) 通过学习可以更有效率，进而导致制造成本的降低。2) 胶片制造就是这样的例子，多年来有很大的降幅。3) 同样的原则也适用于食品制造。4) 我们有多年的经验，所以……
现在的问题是，这些根据（理由、事实、例子、类比）是否能够很好地支持结论呢？
根据1)其实没什么问题。根据2)本身也没有什么问题，那是作者引用的一个事实。根据3)问题大了，而根据4)依附于根据3)，再有道理也没有用，何况，它本身也并不严密。根据3)最重要的问题在于“胶片制造业的原则是否真的可以应用到食品制造业之中？”
以下是可能的分析思路之一：
随着时间的推移，胶片制造业的成本确实在降低。可是，成本降低的原因究竟是什么呢？除了作者提到的学习和效率之外，还有没有其它更重要的原因呢？好像真的有：技术的进步。可问题又来了：在食品制造业中，技术的进步真的也会像在胶片制造业中那样会成为成本下降的重要原因么？好像并不是。首先，在食品制造业中，技术的进步反倒可能造成成本升高──因为要求更高了（比如食品安全检测上的要求）。其次，这是一家速冻食品公司，其技术更新可能并不像胶片制造业中的技术更新那么快。就算是技术进步只能造成成本的降低，那食品制造业因技术进步而受益的程度也可能要比胶片制造业低得多。
还有就是多年的经验本身并不见得一定能够保证公司良好的学习能力和组织效率。作者如果能够证明“本公司在学习能力和组织效率方面有多年的成功经验”，那么结论还相对站得住脚。单纯“多年经验”不是有力的证据。进而，如果按照之前的分析，假设技术进步才是成本降低的更重要的根源，那么，作者应该证明“本公司有常年的技术更新经验”才行。
而事实上，证明“成本会下降，利润会提升”最直接的方法是展示“最近为降低成本做了什么努力，效果如何”，“最近为扩大销售做了什么努力，效果如何”，“我们将用什么样的方法进一步降低成本，提高利润”；而不是用这样牵强的方式去证明。作者应该给出更为直接的证明方式和更为现实的、直接相关的根据。否则，这个结论无法直接接受。
第一次看这种题目的时候，大多数人会茫然不知所措。很多人拼命分析了之后，再看看范例，懊恼的是“我怎么就干脆想不到呢？”而与此同时，另外一些人会得出另外一个极端的结论“哦，原来就是鸡蛋里挑骨头，强词夺理就行了！”这两个想法都是有误导倾向的。1)这种分析本身并不难，很容易习得，更多的是习惯；2) 这不是为了挑刺而挑刺，而是要挑得对，挑得准。
请再把题目和分析思路再过一遍，看看自己能够做哪些补充哪些改进？
